How is WYN serving the community during the COVID-19 Crisis?
Mentoring is connecting with our kids by phone, letter, email, FaceTime, and other virtual platforms. They are also providing a virtual space for mentors to gather and discuss virtual ideas/activities to do with mentees. In some cases, mentors are bringing mentees needed supplies and leaving them at the door.
After School is going to run a modified virtual after school program that seeks to build connections during times of continued social distancing. Staff will be working tirelessly to follow all safety guidelines while still providing kids with exciting new experiences. We have also added a Saturday Excursion component to our after school program this fall in order to provide opportunities for small groups of kids to get outdoors together.
High School Success is connecting with our students by phone, letter, email, and other virtual platforms to ensure their needs are met. It’s even more important during this crisis to make sure students have the support system they need to work towards personal and professional goals.
Community Health is proactively responding to increased alcohol access during this crisis (e.g. through grocery pickup & delivery) to keep our youth safe. Our team is also spreading awareness about the link between smoking and vaping and compromised lungs increasing susceptibility to COVID-19. Additionally, many of the normal efforts and projects are still in action to reduce instances of underage alcohol and vaping.
We are constantly reassessing community needs, and collaborating with other local organizations to serve the most immediate needs that we have capacity for at this time.
